Giancarlo Stanton hit his 50th home run to break an eighth-inning tie, helping the Marlins sweep the Padres with a 6-2 victory Sunday.

Stanton became the first National League player to reach 50 homers since Prince Fielder hit 50 for the Brewers in 2007.

The Dodgers got their 43rd win in their past 50 games Saturday against the Mets, giving them the best 50-game run by a big league team since the 1912 New York Giants compiled the same mark.

Yasiel Puig hit a tie=breaking homer in the seventh inning and the Dodgers went deep five times, rallying past the Mets 7-4 to extend their surge.

At the Dodgers' hotel on Friday afternoon, hours before he dazzled for seven scoreless innings at Citi Field in his Dodgers debut, Yu Darvish met with general manager Farhan Zaidi, the man who engineered the blockbuster deal with the Rangers that brought the electric right-hander to Los Angeles minutes before the non-waiver Trade Deadline.

At the end of a 6-0 Dodgers' win in the series opener in New York, in which Darvish struck out 10 Mets while holding them to three singles and a walk, he had his answer if this was to work.

Brian Dozier hit a pair of homers to back a complete game by Bartolo Colon, as the Twins pushed past the Rangers by a score of 8-4 on Friday at Target Field.

Colon, 44, became the oldest pitcher to record a nine-inning complete game since Jamie Moyer did it at the age of 47 in 2010. His 37th complete game -- and his first since Sept. 5, 2015 -- came just over 20 years after his first on July 28, 1997. Colon is the oldest American League pitcher to throw a nine-inning complete game win since Nolan Ryan did so in 1992. He is the oldest right-hander to accomplish the feat since Charlie Hough in 1994.

Nationals ace Max Scherzer left in the second inning of Tuesday night's 7-6 loss at Miami with what the team said were neck spasms, after belting his first career home run in the first inning.

Scherzer said he has had a crick in his neck for a couple of days but that it helped his swing.

"I couldn't pull my head out, I had to stay locked in," Scherzer said. "That actually gave me a better swing. That's the reason why I hit a home run."
